Our classroom follows the school-wide behavior expectations as well as the expectations established in our class social contract. These expectations help maintain a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment for all students.
When a Tier 1 behavior occurs, students may be redirected using The Four Questions:
What are you doing?
What are you supposed to be doing?
Were you doing it?
What are you going to do about it?
When appropriate, the expected behavior will be retaught and reinforced, giving the student an opportunity to make a positive correction.
Behavior responses and consequences are determined based on the individual situation, including the nature of the behavior, its impact on the learning environment, and the student’s behavioral history or pattern of behavior. Not every situation requires a verbal redirection before a consequence is assigned.
Depending on the behavior and circumstances, recess detention may be assigned on the first offense. Continued or repeated behaviors may result in a behavior referral and/or additional consequences in accordance with school expectations.
Recess detention is typically served with a 6th-grade teacher on the following Monday.
The purpose of this process is to maintain clear and consistent expectations while allowing appropriate responses based on the circumstances of each situation.
