Here are some tips for helping your student at home:
TIPS AND IDEAS TO HELP YOUR CHILD THROUGH THE YEAR:
READING TIPS:
Make letters out of items you have laying around the house. This can be straws, yarn, pipe cleaners, toys etc.
Using shaving cream spray, or salt and put an amount on the counter or tray and have your students spell out sight words, or word families.
Make letters and words using playdough.
Read to your child, or let your child read to you! Remind them to use their picture clues if it is a book that is on their level.
Play sound games, use short cvc words and have your student to tell you what the beginning sound, middle sound, or ending sound is.
Give them every opportunity to sound out words, and read to you!
Play Picture this! On your next outing take lots of pictures, print them out in black and white or color, and have your child come up with a caption to retell the story of your day!
MATH TIPS:
Make numbers in shaving cream.
Practice writing your numbers. Check our website to see how far we are writing to in class.
Count objects: toys, food, etc.
Memorize your phone number! Children need these in case of emergencies!
Say a number 0-10 and have your child to show that number of fingers quickly. You want them to be able to respond quickly.
Use dice to roll and add all of the dots on the sides. This will help students add!
Ask your child what they learned in math today! Having them to go over this will help them to remember the steps they took.
On your next outing play a number game. You can look at numbers on houses or cars as you pass by.
Use flashcards!
Let them measure or count things when you bake.
Play store with the items in your pantry.
Sort objects in your house: toys, silverware, food by size etc.
Writing Tips:
Have a word race. See how many words that your student can write within one minute.
Write as many sentences as you can within 5 minutes.
Encourage your student to read their writing often.
Show your child how you write!
Write color words with the correct color (Markers/Crayons).
Have your child to write their own names plus the names of family members.
