Dear Families,
Everyday in our class we will be having a class meeting! During this special time, the students get to greet one another, read and respond to a message, share something special about themselves, and do an activity together. Through this format students will practice self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, social awareness, and relationship skills.
Some ways you can continue to foster your child’s social and emotional learning at home:
Greet your child and have them respond back to you with appropriate manners and eye contact.
Have a family share time at dinner or another time that works for you that allows your child and other family members to talk about their day or feelings.
Play board/card games together, do crafts with your kids, engage in outdoor play as a family, or participate in other activities with one another.
Reinforce coping strategies such as mindful breathing, mindful movement, identifying and discussing feelings, etc.
Discuss the natural consequences of your child’s choices so they are able to make responsible decisions.
Encourage your child to participate in group activities, in person or virtually, to help them practice their social/relationship skills.
Thank you for your continued cooperation in supporting your child’s social and emotional learning!
Sincerely,
Ms. O’Larte and Mrs. Wernersbach
