Distributive Property

Breaking apart larger multiplication facts into two smaller facts.

When we solve our:

6 facts: Use our 5 and 1 facts

7 facts: Use 5 and 2 facts

8 facts: Use 5 and 3 facts

Associative Property

When you multiply more than 2 digits, you can group them in any order and

you will get the same answer.

6x5 x2

(6x5)x2= 30x2=60

6x(5x2)=6 x 10=60

So.... 6x(5x2)=(6x5)x2

Commutative Property

The order of the numbers does not matter.

Once you learn 3x5= 15,

you know that 5x3= 15.

Multiplying by 2

Rules:

Any number multiplied by 2 is an even number

Double the other factor

Relationship between Multiplication and Division

Multiplication is equal groups with the same amount in each group.

Division is breaking up a large number into equal groups.
