Room 303’s Basic Business
Once again, I would like to welcome you and your child to second grade at Mill Lake School. I hope this year will be filled with fun and learning. I look forward to working with you. I hope you will find the following information helpful.
Snack
We will have snack time each morning. Please provide your child with an easy to eat, healthy snack daily. If utensils are needed, please provide them. You may also send your child to school with water. Students may keep a water bottle on their desk or in their cubby.
Specials
Our class specials are as follows:
Monday - Music
Tuesday - Physical Education*
Wednesday - Art
Thursday - Library**
Friday - Physical Education*
*Please make sure that your child wears sneakers on Physical Education days - Tues. & Fri..
**Please make sure that your child returns his/her library book on Thursdays.
This information can also be found on my website at https://sites.google.com/monroe.k12.nj.us/mfletcher/our-specials-schedule.
Take Home Folder
Please check your child's folder daily. This year, the folder is black and has a picture of a backpack on the front. Any important notices, lunch calendars or permission slips will be in this folder. Please check the entire folder daily, as sometimes papers can mistakenly be placed in the incorrect section. Your child’s folder should be emptied daily. The only papers that should remain in the folder are papers to be handed in to school or weekly homework assignments.
Change to Dismissal
If your child will have a change in his/her dismissal schedule, please let me know in writing - NOT EMAIL. Sometimes technology is not working, or a substitute teacher is in the room without access to email. If a change occurs during the school day, please call the main office.
School Lunch
It is best if you add money to your child’s lunch account online so that they do not have to be responsible for cash at school. However, if your child chooses to bring cash for lunch or snack, bring in money for a special event, or bring in money for any other reason, money must be sent to school in an envelope or Ziplock bag labeled with your child’s name. Please DO NOT send loose money to school with your child, as it can get easily lost. Thank you!
Birthdays
Please note that the Monroe Township Board of Education has a policy that states that students are not permitted to bring in edible treats for birthdays. Goodie bags, without food, are permitted as long as there are enough goodie bags for all students in class. There are 23 students in our class. We look forward to recognize your child’s birthday in our class by making a birthday book and singing, “Happy Birthday”.
Per school rule, if your child will be handing out invitations in school, please make sure that everyone in the class is invited. Invitations may not be handed out to only a few children.
Mystery Reader Program
Our Mystery Reader program is a great way to become involved in your child’s classroom. Parents (or older siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.) are invited to become guest readers in our classroom. In order to make this program as simple as possible for you, all that is required is an email regarding when you would like to read to our class. Please tell me the date that you are available for reading and I will try to be flexible about the time for reading, 1:00, 1:15 or 2:35 are preferred times. I will get back to you with the best time for our class. When you come, please bring a book or two to read to the class. Mystery readers usually spend about 20 minutes with our class. Most importantly, don’t tell your child…… it’s a surprise! Students are always very excited to learn the identity of our mystery reader! This program will begin in October.
Communication
I believe that communication and cooperation between home and school is extremely important. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. Thank you!
Responsibility
I encourage independence in my classroom and I am trying to build responsible patterns in our students. Please encourage this at home as well by making sure your child is responsible for his/her own schoolwork, backpack, etc. A responsible student is a successful one! ☺
I am looking forward to having a wonderful fun filled year with your child! Once again, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. I welcome the partnership! I look forward to meeting you at our Back-to-School Night on September 18th. Thank you in advance for your support and help!
Sincerely,
Melissa Fletcher
