PreK
3yo PreK classes are exploring shapes and colors stories in the library this month!!
The PreK 4 classes are making their way through some classic children's stories! We are finding that the classics are going by the wayside and we are bringing them back to center stage where they belong! The Giving Tree, Madeline, The Kissing Hand, Paddington... these are just a few example of stories that will be read during our PreK 4 library sessions :-)
KINDERGARTEN
Kindergarteners are still going full steam ahead with our classic fairy tales year long unit. In April, we finished up Hans Christian Anderson stories with Thumbelina and The Little Mermaid. This month, we dive into the world of The Brothers Grimm. We will begin with Briar Rose (Sleeping Beauty), Jack and the Beanstalk, Rumpelstiltskin and Little Red Cap (Little Red Riding Hood).
1st Grade
In April, 1st graders learned about organization of nonfiction materials. We did a "tour" of the nonfiction section, highlighting some of the really cool titles that can be found (Origami, Science Behind Superman's Flight, Pirate Treasure, etc). We explored the parts of a book and how books are made. This month, we will be enjoying the series Geronimo Stilton and The Time Warp Trio and practicing our typing skills!
2nd Grade
Once we wrapped up our Caldecott Unit, 2nd graders jumped right into Destiny lessons. Students learned how to navigate and log in to Destiny. They learned how to search and browse for titles and put holds on titles that they wanted. We are currently reading the novel I Fell Into a Fairytale" as an homage to their Kindergarten days at Barclay Brook.
