Dear Kindergarten Families,
Welcome to Kindergarten! We are looking forward to an exciting new year with your child! We can’t wait to meet your child at orientation on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 9:30AM.
We will be spending the first days together getting to know our room, school, and each other! Here are some important things to help start the year off right…
Teacher’s Name: Mrs. Shur
Paraprofessional: Mrs. Bucior
We are in Room 10.
Friend Finder Throughout the year, many parents ask for a phone number and address so their child can contact another child in the class. I am putting together a “Friend Finder” so you will have that information! If you would like your child’s information to be included, please fill in the form which will be sent home to you at the beginning of the school year.
Dress: Please dress your child comfortably and appropriately for school. We sometimes do some messy things and go outside! Please label all outerwear.
Notices/class work:
Please make sure your child has a backpack each day with his/her name on it. It is also important to remember to empty his/her backpack and folder every day!
Your child will receive a Mill Lake folder at the beginning of school. We will put all the important school notes inside this folder. Please place any notes for me inside this folder as well. Your child will hand in the folder every morning. It is part of our routine to place the folder inside a bin as they unpack every morning.
Your child will also have a classwork folder. This is one of the folders you are sending in from home. This folder will stay in the classroom. DO NOT put important notes or homework in this folder.
Dismissal:
If there is any change in your child’s dismissal procedure, you must give me written permission. Please do NOT email me a dismissal change. If I am absent, the substitute will NOT receive the information. I must receive this at the beginning of their day so that I have time to send your note to the office. No changes will be made unless we receive written authorization from you. EMAIL will NOT be accepted. If dismissal plans change during school hours please call the school office.
Snack:
We will have a daily snack time. You may send a drink and a small snack. PLEASE separate kindergarten snacks and before/aftercare snacks!
Snack must come from home as I cannot give out any food. Please ask your child what they would like for a snack and pack it together. Keep it simple. Please have your child practice opening and closing their snack independently. The more independent your child is, the easier it will be for everyone!
Please do not send any of the following items:
●glass bottles ●sippy cups ●cans or soda
Remember to send any utensils needed for their snack. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!
Lunch:
Now that it is full day our class will go to the cafeteria for lunch. Please make sure that their lunch bag is clearly labeled in case they misplace it. Food cannot be heated up so please plan accordingly. Students will also be allowed to purchase lunch. Information will be sent out to you from the district.
MISCELLANEOUS:
Please let me know if your student goes by a nickname as I am currently labeling things for the classroom. You can email me privately at: ashley.shur@monroe.k12.nj.us 😊.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR COOPERATION!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Shur
