With the support of The Arts & Justice Collective and Amplify POC, Inc.*, Monomoy Regional High School and the Latinos en Cape Cod community organize the First Annual Festival of Latinos en Cape Cod. This is a FREE event open to EVERYONE, both Latinos and non-Latinos, held in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Its goal is not only to honor Latino traditions and pride but also to build a bridge of understanding and brotherhood among our diverse communities. Through this festival, we aim to showcase the richness of Latin music, dance, traditions, and arts, elements that are an integral part of the cultural fabric of our countries.

This event is an opportunity for everyone, regardless of their background, to experience and enjoy the diversity that makes our community across Cape Cod so unique. It is a free and open event for residents of the Cape and surrounding areas.

We seek to promote diversity and intercultural understanding, key factors in the development of an inclusive community. This highlights the importance of creating spaces where different cultures can coexist, share, and learn from one another.

*The Arts & Justice Collective is currently made up of Amplify POC, Belonging Books and The Cordial Eye, non-profits and mission-driven organizations based on Cape Cod, MA. Together, the organizations use their collective strengths, missions, and resources to empower each other and our community to create a culture of belonging for members of historically-excluded groups through art and social justice.

Amplify POC, Inc. is a racial equity 501c3 nonprofit organization with the mission to eliminate the racial wealth gap and foster ownership in communities of color. Amplify POC, Inc believes that inclusitvity and equitable policies and practices is the key to building a healthy, thriving, and innovative Cape Cod community!

What are we celebrating?

Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Latino Heritage Month, celebrated from September 15 to October 15 in the United States, honors the contributions and culture of Hispanics and Latinos in the country. It coincides with the independence dates of several Latin American countries. During this month, historical, artistic and cultural achievements of these communities are highlighted.

Latin countries

In the cultural context of the Americas, Latin countries primarily include those in Latin America where Spanish and Portuguese are the predominant languages, such as Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and other Central and South American countries. It also includes some Caribbean countries such as Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. Although "Latino" is sometimes used to refer to people from Latin America in general, its meaning encompasses a broader linguistic heritage than just Spanish.

Building cultural bridges

Latinos on Cape Cod reflects the power of culture to unite people, overcoming differences and breaking down social barriers. Through music, art, food, traditions and language, communities are able to share their stories and values, promoting mutual understanding and respect. This cultural exchange not only allows people to learn from each other, but also to see the similarities that connect us as human beings.

For the educational community, this festival represents a valuable pedagogical resource. Students of Spanish and other multicultural programs will have the opportunity to experience an immersive event, connecting what they learn in the classroom with the vibrant reality of Latin culture. This will enrich their learning and foster a greater appreciation and respect for diversity.
