1. What's the difference between this website and Google Classroom?
Students will be using Google Classroom for homework, in-class assignments, and it will also have a record of the lessons. This website will provide unit or other ELA-related information that can be accessed throughout the year.
2. What should my child do if he/she is absent?
If your child is absent, have him/her check the team homework page in Google Classroom and complete the assignment. When he/she returns to school, have your child turn in any work that was due. If your child does not understand the assignment, have him/her email me.
3. Can the class reading books be in electronic form?
Yes, the "current unit" page will include an electronic copy of the class text.
4. Will there be homework?
The Wychmere Harbor teachers will post their homework assignments on a team page. Students must refer to this page every afternoon and evening. Students can also record their assignments in an agenda book. Students should also be reading for about thirty minutes every evening. This is just good practice.
5. What if my child does not understand the assignment?
If your child is struggling with an assignment, please have him/her email me, so that I can help. Your child can also come in early for extra help. I am usually in school by 8:00.
6. What is your process for writing papers?
We will be spending about a week writing a paper so that students understand the process. By the end of seventh grade, we expect that they can follow this process with little guidance.
Evaluate the task/prompt
Organize our ideas
Create an outline
Write the body paragraphs
Write the introduction
Write the conclusion
Revise and Peer edit
Edit
8. Can I help my child edit his/her work?
Yes! Please help your child edit his/her work. The best thing you can do is read the paper aloud to check for clarity. If there is something that is unclear to you, then it needs to be clarified. I always remind the students that your audience knows nothing, so don't assume that your reader will fill in the blanks.
9. Can my child "Google share" his/her drafts with me?
Yes, if you have a Gmail account, then he/she can share the work, which may make it easier when you help edit. However, please use the comments feature and don't fix the paper without his/her knowledge.
