A "4 year college" is a college or university where you study to earn a 4 year degree, or bachelors degree. This would be in an area of study or "major" that you are interested in studying.
For example: If a student has a long term goal of becoming a physician or "doctor" one option would be to major in a life science like biology to get started. Once they earn their bachelors degree in biology which will hopefully take around 4 years, they will then continue to pursue medical school where they can earn their medical degree.
If you begin your college career at a 4 year college there are different admissions requirements compared to a 2 year college - like MJC or other community colleges. To apply to a 4 year college you must:
Meet course requirements (most often the A-G required courses)
Meet certain GPA requirements (think 3.0 or higher)
Sometimes take entrance tests like the SAT or ACT
Here is a link to some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for students interested in applying to one of the CSU campuses and how COVID-19 is impacting the process, admissions, and SAT/ACT testing.
If you are first gen, (if your parents do not have a college degree) low income, or typically underrepresented in college - you should apply. EOP is different at every campus, but some of the possible benefits are – individual counseling similar to what you have with your high school counselor, priority registration, mentors, some campuses have scholarships, some have group gatherings to help students as they adjust to campus/college life, etc.
The EOP application for the CSU app is due after the initial November 30th application deadline. You will need to get recommenders and that application isn't due until January - see the campus website for deadline information. You will be able to log back into your Cal State Apply application and complete the EOP portion of the application if you don't have time by the November deadline.
Dance is an A-G course - not a PE course for college purposes. It meets the "F" requirement. List it as a semester class and average your 2 quarter grades per semester.
Secondary Math 1 is listed as Integrated Math.
Spanish 2 needs to be entered as "Spanish II" and it should come up. Spanish and then two capital "I's"
Pre-AP Physics and Integrated Ag Science or Agriscience meet the "G" elective category. Manually change that under A-G matching. Pre-AP physics is names "physics" and Agriscience is named "Chemistry in Agriscience"
Refer to the application guide for how to enter courses you had to repeat due to a low grade.
Your SSID number is at the very top of your transcript under your Student ID#.
The fee waiver is determined based on parent income at the very end of the application. If you have a balance owed -- you didn't qualify. If financial circumstances have significantly changed there is a process to appeal. Contact CSU for the form.
There is no space to include your extracurricular activities. You didn't miss something or complete the application incorrectly.
Some campuses may ask about extracurriculars or have additional questions or requirements. That will depend on the campus and the program you are applying to.
Check to see if the private or out-of-state colleges you are planning to apply to accept the Common Application. If so, this is the best and easiest way for Beyer students to apply. This application integrates with your Naviance account so that Beyer can submit all of your documents to these colleges electronically. This includes your transcript, school report and profile, and letters of recommendation. See below for links to instructions and tips.
ALL LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION FROM TEACHERS MUST BE UPLOADED BEFORE WINTER BREAK.
