The Victorian Biomedical Education Symposium Organising Committee are pleased to invite you to a unique and timely symposium dedicated to academics teaching within Biomedical Science courses. While many professional societies offer meetings focused on higher education or specific biomedical disciplines, there is currently no forum that brings educators together at the course level. This symposium will fill that gap—creating an opportunity to build networks, strengthen collegiality, and share practices that address the common goals and challenges of Biomedical Science education.
The meeting will be a 1-day, in-person collegial gathering consisting of a range of presentations, discussions and informal networking opportunities focusing on common themes and challenges. Presentations and discussions will focus on practice and on-the-ground experiences without the expectation of formalised research.

All academics and relevant professional staff teaching and working within Biomedical Science courses in Victoria are invited! Early career academics are highly encouraged to attend but everyone is welcome.

We are pleased to offer some sponsored registrations to celebrate the launch of what we hope will become an annual symposium. These places will be reserved for early career academics as part of our commitment to fostering networking and collaboration beyond their home institution.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants should:
Be an early-career academic or sessional staff member (Academic Level A or B; teaching for <5 years)
Teach into a biomedical course or equivalent, including service teaching
Submit a 200–300-word application outlining:
How attending the conference would benefit their teaching, academic development, or broader professional development; and
How their attendance would benefit their institution, including potential contributions to colleagues, curriculum development or teaching practice
Selection process
Applications will be reviewed by the organising committee against the application criteria above.
To ensure a fair and independent process, organising committee members will not participate in the assessment of applicants from their own institution.

Take a Cranbourne or Pakenham line train to Huntingdale Station (services operate via the Metro Tunnel from 1 February 2026).
From Huntingdale, catch the 601, 630 or 900 bus to the Clayton campus bus loop (see map below).
Change points:
For some journeys, you may connect between lines at Caulfield, Town Hall, State Library or Footscray stations to reach a Cranbourne or Pakenham line service.

The closest car park to the Learning and Teaching building is Car Park SE3 (64 Scenic Boulevard). This is accessed most easily via the main entrance off Wellington Road. The carpark is the first right after the entrance and is just a short walk to the Teaching and Learning Building (see map below).
