Umbilical cord clamping at birth

The timing of umbilical cord clamping is known to be important for the health of a newborn baby. The 'Umbilical cord clamping at birth: improving healthcare for newborn babies' workshop provides health professionals with an in-depth understanding of the physiological processes and changes that a newborn goes through at birth.

This foundation knowledge will enable health professionals to make informed decisions regarding the optimal time to clamp the umbilical cord, based on the individual infant’s physiology. This will best support a stable circulatory transition at birth for every infant, especially those born preterm that are greatly susceptible to cardiovascular and pulmonary complications.

Who should participate?

The course is designed for medical practitioners involved in maternal and neonatal care, including midwives, obstetricians, registrars and GP-obstetricians.
