NW Victorian Regional Training Hub
In 2022 the Monash Regional Training Hubs have delivered a series of "Career Ready" webinars and workshops to support rural medical students and rural interns in Monash Rural Health's footprint. This was done in conjunction with AMA Victoria's Medical Careers Advisory Service and supported by a number of local rural health services. The webinars covered: (1) the art of resume writing & applications; (2) creating impact & interviewing well; and (3) research & professionalism (building your brand). An additional in-person workshop gave final year rural medical school students the opportunity to receive personalised feedback on their internship applications and to practice interviewing for a position with rural health services.

The ‘Re-Invigorating the Rural Medical Workforce- Rural Training Pathways Congress’ will be held in Mildura on the 9th of December 2022. Led by Monash Rural Health Mildura and the North West Victorian and Gippsland Regional Training Hubs, the event will focus on psychiatry, general practice and rural generalism and brings together a range of partner organisations. Health Service Representatives and Colleges (RANZCP, RACGP and ACRRM) will have the opportunity to engage in roundtable discussions to share learnings around rural training delivery, with the goal being to support and further develop training pathways around Victoria. Meanwhile, aspiring Rural Clinicians (current medical students & pre-vocational doctors) will be able to network with junior and senior clinicians, learn about rural opportunities and mentoring, tour the Mildura hospitals and experience the benefits of living, working and training rurally.

Doctors play a significant role in teaching medical students, Interns and Residents but are often asked to teach without being given any tools or support to know how to teach. In this presentation, we will discuss a unique training pathway upskilling rural and regional doctors’ in the ability to deliver high quality teaching and clinical education. After positive feedback from the Bendigo pilot, the program has been rolled out further across the Monash Rural Health footprint to Gippsland and Mildura with the support of the Monash NW Victorian and Gippsland Regional Training Hubs and a strong collaboration with the Monash Centre for Scholarship in Health Education. The pathway enables regional doctors to undertake professional learning onsite that supports their applications for College programs, and is a stepping stone into post graduate education in Clinical Education. It upskills doctors to approach education with confidence and competence so that the next generations coming through are well taught, well skilled and see their futures intertwined with rural and regional areas.
