Darwin Gouwanda graduated from Monash University with Bachelor degree in Mechatronics Engineering and PhD in Biomedical Engineering. He is an active member of IEEE EMBS (Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society) Malaysia and has been holding several key positions: vice chair in 2015, secretary in 2016, and chapter chair since 2023 till present. He is also the technical program chair for IEEE IECBES conference, which is a biennially event organised by IEEE EMBS Malaysia. His research expertise lies in the cross-disciplinary discipline of mechatronics and biomedical engineering or commonly known as "biomechatronics" focusing on wearable technology to monitor, assist and enhance human daily living activities to improve the overall quality of life.
