Dr. Chan Ping Yi is an educator and researcher at Monash University Malaysia. Since the year 2013, she has been involved in biomechanical engineering research. She is specialized in the measurement and data analysis of Parkinson’s disease tremor symptoms. Previously she has developed an objective measurement system for Parkinson’s disease tremor. The quantification system involves the kinematics of human motion, specifically in multi-degrees-of-freedom relative motions. The quality of the research work is proven by the success in publishing papers in IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering as well as Scientific Reports by the publisher, Springer Nature. The system and methods of quantifying tremors of multiple-degrees-of-freedom coupled motions have been filed for patent in Malaysia (MyIPO) and Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). She has established research collaborations with medical company (Freedom Med Inc) and hospitals (Penang General Hospital, Loh Guan Lye). Together with Universiti Sains Malaysia, she has involved in the biomedical related research projects funded by CREST grants (industry collaborators: Motorola, NI, Freedom Med, SAS).
