What is the IMPARO toolkit?
The IMPARO toolkit is a collection of resources for community interpreters and translators. It was specifically ideated for and with non-professional T&Is based in Australian regional areas where training and professional development opportunities are hard to access. The goal was to ensure that all people interpreting and translating in the community have the tools to do so in an ethical and safe way.
Community interpreters and translators can access the toolkit to learn more about the T&I profession in Australia, improve their practices, prepare for a NAATI test and find a support network. The toolkit also contains useful resources for employers working with community interpreters and translators (both professional and non-professional) who wish to access information to engage more effectively with multicultural communities.
The toolkit is a work-in-progress platform. It should not be seen as exhaustive and will need to be updated and enriched in collaboration with communities.
Here are some of things that are currently included in the toolkit:
Introduction to community interpreting and the roles of community interpreters
Glossaries on different topics
A template to create your own glossaries
A list of useful websites where you will be able to find free training videos and interesting podcasts or newsletter to keep yourself up to date
A guided reading to the AUSIT Code of Ethics and Conduct to familiarise yourself with the ethics of the profession
Information about the NAATI test and how to prepare for it.
How to use this toolkit
The IMPARO Toolkit is hosted on Google Drive. Google Drive is an online storage and file-sharing service provided by Google. It allows you to store files securely in the cloud, access them from anywhere, collaborate with others in real-time, and much more. This guide will walk you through the basics of using Google Drive.
You can access and download files shared with you without the need for an account.
Here's a short guide on how to do it:

When you click on a link, you'll be taken to the corresponding folder on Google Drive. This folder might contain single files or other sub-folders, which contain files. Double click on the folders to see the files and on the files to open them.
You will only be able to view the files and download them, but won't be able to edit them.
