The award-winning Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) program brings together health professions students from Monash University in Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia and China as well as partner universities across Australia, Italy, and the United Kingdom. More international locations will be included as the program continues to grow.
Through shared activities and discussions, you’ll explore different perspectives, build practical skills, and learn how to work together across cultures, disciplines and contexts — no travel required.
The program was recently recognised nationally with the Australian Medical Council (AMC) and the Australian & New Zealand Association for Health Professional Educators (ANZAHPE) Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice Award (2026) for its innovation and impact in health professions education.
Collaborate with students from different countries, cultures, and health professions,
Work in small teams to explore real-world global health challenges and develop innovative solutions,
Engage in interactive discussions, collaborative activities, and AI-enabled simulations,
Learn how healthcare is experienced, delivered, and understood in different cultural and international contexts,
Reflect on your learning and consider how it applies to your future professional practice.
This program includes four 2-hour sessions delivered over 3 weeks in October every year.
You will be supported throughout the program by experienced facilitators and educators. Activities are carefully designed to foster meaningful intercultural and interprofessional engagement, ensuring that every participant can contribute, learn, and grow in a supportive global learning environment.
Upon successful completion, all students receive a COIL Certificate of Completion.
Monash students will also receive a completion statement on their academic transcript/graduation statement.
Through four interactive online sessions, you'll collaborate with students from different health professions, cultures, and countries to explore real-world global health challenges, share perspectives, and develop innovative solutions. Along the way, you'll build valuable skills in intercultural communication, teamwork, leadership, and collaborative problem-solving, capabilities increasingly sought by employers and essential for contemporary healthcare practice.
COIL is more than an international learning experience. It is an opportunity to broaden your perspective, expand your professional network, and gain insight into how healthcare is delivered across different cultures and systems around the world.
This program is designed for students in health and allied health disciplines who are interested in working collaboratively and engaging with global perspectives.
You don’t need prior experience — just a willingness to participate, contribute, and learn alongside others.
