Annas is a doctoral researcher in fiscal, energy, and environmental policy. Specialising in upstream carbon taxation and the political economy of energy transitions in coal‑exporting economies, he looks beyond the numbers, drawing on political economy insights, real‑world stakeholder perspectives, and systems thinking to uncover what makes policy both effective and fair. His current research focuses on Indonesia’s shift away from coal, exploring how upstream carbon taxation can drive a paradigm shift from control to stewardship — moving from top‑down regulatory command toward approaches that foster shared responsibility, resilience, and long‑term care for resources.
Backed by rigorous analytical training and senior‑level public service experience in close partnership with the business sector, Annas bridges technical insight with practical impact to spark dialogue and co‑create solutions that steward shared prosperity for people and the planet.
