I believe the mark of a good stage manager is in finding the balance needed to not only have a productive rehearsal room but a fun one. To allow actors and designers to experience the joy of their craft, the freedom of their expression, and the assurance of their physical, mental, and creative safety in the hands of their stage manager. While I take pride in my scheduling, reports, run sheets, diagrams, and organizational systems, the true joy I get from stage management comes from the feeling of harmony in the rehearsal room when everything is running as it should be and everyone has what they need to make art together.
