SOPPA (Student Online Personal Protection Act) is an Illinois state law designed to protect 'Covered Information'—which includes student names, email addresses, metadata, and search history—from being sold, rented, or used for commercial profiling. Moline-Coal Valley strictly adheres to this law, ensuring that any vendor accessing student data has signed a legally binding agreement confirming their compliance.

Critical Guidelines
- Do not, under any circumstances, utilize standard "Sign in with Google" buttons on unvetted applications or websites. This constitutes accepting legal "Terms of Service" on behalf of students and the district.
If a tool is approved in the database, it is cleared
If a student asks how to create an account, ensure you guide them to use only approved methods (Google SSO) rather than unauthorized personal account creation.

Transparency is required by law. In the rare event a vendor utilized by the district experiences a security breach where covered student data is exposed, Moline-Coal Valley will notify the impacted families directly via email within the state-mandated timelines.
