The Catholic school centre MARIANUM was founded in 1929, originally as a seminary for future priests and intellectuals. Under communism, the state abolished clerical education and it became a state school. In 1993 the Catholic Church took back the building and since then it has been used as a religious school. Our school building has recently been renovated.
Our school consists of a kindergarten, a primary school and a four-year secondary grammar school. In the current school year, 106 children attend the kindergarten, 238 the nine-grade primary school and 79 students the four-year high school. The number of teaching staff is 48. The low number of students and the family atmosphere have a positive effect on the students' mental development.
The school centre's motto "Return to traditional values" reflects that the school places special emphasis on religious education and preservation of traditional values. Our school offers classes of religious education and we regularly attend Holy Masses. Two thirds of our students are Catholic and one third Reformed. Students go to monthly Mass: Catholics to the Catholic Church, Reformed students to the Reformed Church.
The institution is a minority school in Komárno, where 80 percent of the population belongs to the Hungarian minority.
