This is the 4th Edition of National Antimicrobial Guideline (NAG). This guideline will hopefully benefit the clinicians, pharmacists and all healthcare providers in advocating rationale use of antibiotic and subsequently can curb antimicrobial resistance and minimize healthcare cost.
This is the second edition of the Protocol on Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Programme developed by the National Infection and Antibiotic Control Committee in collaboration with the Medical Development Division, Pharmaceutical Services Programme and Family Health Development Division, Ministry of Health, Malaysia.
With the hope to establish and maintain a national coordinating mechanism for AMS programme, this protocol helps to guide and strengthen the formation of a structured and successful AMS programme in all healthcare facilities.
The Malaysian Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) 2022-2026 is a national strategy aimed at tackling the growing threat of AMR through a comprehensive approach. It focuses on strengthening governance, improving surveillance, promoting infection prevention and control, ensuring responsible antimicrobial use, and raising public awareness. The plan also emphasizes supporting research and development of new treatments and diagnostics, while fostering international collaboration to address AMR globally. The ultimate goal is to reduce AMR's impact in Malaysia, ensure the continued effectiveness of antimicrobials, and prevent the spread of resistant pathogens across human health, animal health, and agriculture sectors.
