Part 1: Drawing key lessons

• The inside of the bowl could have a ‘pimpled’ surface to reduce rice sticking like existing rice scoopers to reduce surface contact.

• The prototype did well to address the hygiene problem but may not be quick enough for hawkers.

Areas of improvement:

• Thinking of ways to store the tool when not in use. i.e. After hawkers scoop a portion, it could be attached to the side of the rice container.

• Improve the design to work with one handed use. It will help simplify and speed up the action, saving a lot of time if you have to do this hundreds of times a day.

Part 2: Exploring Possibilities

• The team could look into how the scoop is used by hawkers during busy hours to see how they would suggest improving the design.

• Include a spring mechanism into the scoop like those found in ice cream scoops for one handed operation.
