The team chose a noble cause that could help change someone's life!
The team did well to translate their idea of using eye tracking into a working prototype, from the use of specific eye movements to the integration of the arduino modules.
It would have been interesting to see students comparing some existing solutions for ALS patients. One famous example would have been Stephen Hawking.
Students could test out and compare their phrase profiles against a text to speech system that Stephen Hawking uses. The TTS system suggests subsequent words as the user 'types' much like the word prediction in a smartphone.
A TTS system could be more applicable to a wide range of scenarios. The user would not need to switch 'profiles' and be able to communicate quickly.
Hopefully this project can inspire students and become an expert in field in the future!
