At the heart of Samoan way of life is ‘aiga’, meaning ‘family’ values including selflessness, hospitality, co-operation, respect and dignity. What core values and ideas from your culture can be used to enhance co-operation and community in the Commonwealth?
The children in our Commonwealth have lost sight of the importance of respect that is typically given to grandparents. Most of these children live away from their grandparents and only visit them a few times a year. The importance of the teachings that their grandparents teach them are only visible to them once they pass away, once and for all. The simple things that were attainable before are impossible to get now.
