Humans of Woodlands
Humans of Woodlands
Humans of Woodlands is a catalogue of stories collected from Woodlands. Every semester, we interview a familiar face in Woodlands and take a glimpse into his/her life. Storytelling helps us make sense of our inner world and the world around us. We are stories we tell ourselves. This issue, we speak to Mr Suka Ekiriwang for his story!
Did you know that WDL has a trusty IT team that supports the entire school (both staff and students) with their IT needs?
Did you also know that it works tirelessly round the clock from 6 to 6 for some days to ensure smooth running of big school events?
Heading the IT team is none other than Mr Suka Ekiriwang, ICT Manager who has been helming the team for 15 years!
1) Mr Suka, what is your job scope in Woodlands Secondary and how long have you been here?

3) What is one thing that you like about WDL?
Colleagues and staff members are friendly, and we all get along very well. This to me this is important in any workplace. Once you are happy and secure with your work environment, you would be able to manage the job.
4) What was your favourite subject at school when you were a teenager? Tell us more about it.
Mathematics is my favourite subject, I find this is the subject that you can score the highest as long as you know your formula well, and know how to apply to the question, the rest is just calculation.
“Being able to secure yourself with good and quality education will help you conquer future challenges."
5. Has there been a time when you faced an obstacle? Any advice on how to overcame it?
Yes, I believe many of us face obstacles in our work. However, the important thing is not to let the obstacle or negative emotion take a hold on you. You should face it calmly, and think positively how to overcome the obstacles. Share with your friends who might have solution. Speak with your classmates, peer support leaders or teachers. Remember, believe in yourself that you can solve the unsolvable!
6) If there is one thing that you would like to see more of in WDL, what would that be?
Well, I hope that students can be more engaged in their studies as I believe education is the key to one’s future. The more educated you are, the more secure you are in your life. We know that some jobs are becoming less relevant and are being substituted by robot and AI technology. With so many prospects eyeing a few pieces of the pie, the world out there is going to be tough. Being able to secure yourself with good and quality education will help you conquer future challenges.
7) What are you reading right now?
With e-books widely accessible on the National Library Board (NLB) app, I occasionally browse through several books about photography, and tips and tricks about photo-editing. As the saying goes, 'A picture says a thousand words.' Capturing that ideal photograph does provide a real snapshot to the beauty of nature, the essence of the mood, the soul of the character. Undoubtedly, it is quite satisfying to indulge in photography when time permits.
