This issue, we feature a selection of poems written by our Secondary 2 students as part of their literature classwork. What do you think the theme of these poems is? Any guesses?
Brighter Than Shooting Stars
by Shyne (2 Resilence)
In the starry gaze of the moon,
I instead lose myself in your voice, its tunes,
Watching the shooting stars above disappear from the naked eye.
I look at you as our wishes fly by in the night sky.
How brightly glittering your eyes stand like the stars’ boons.
My Hobby I Love
by Cherlyn (2 Resilience)
Oh, how I love to draw traditionally…
Oh, how I love to draw digitally…
I can draw big trees!
I can draw funny bees!
I can draw whatever I want… passionately.
Love Distractions
by Aedan (2 Resilence)
It’s hard to write a poem about love,
When you have noisy neighbours above,
There’s clinging and clanging,
And some sort of banging,
And my paper’s still white like a dove.
Love at First Sight
by Eryn (2 Empathy)
When we ate ice cream,
That’s when I fell in love with him.
I can talk to him without losing my breath
I love him so much, I love him to death,
My love for him is over the brim!
Untitled
by Alia (2 Appreciation)
Look
at the
sky at night.
Count the stars and
that is how
much
I love
you.
Under the setting sun
by Aryanah (2 Respect 1)
You made my heart flutter,
But I could only stutter.
Under the setting sun,
Your eyes glimmered as we run
Which made my love for you stronger
Under the setting sun
by Shadriq (2 Respect 1)
Tis’ her I adore
Not one l love more
Her beautiful gaze
Leaves me in a daze
And shakes me to my core.
