Welcome to the Temasek Academy (Science) showcase for our online Open House! Our programme for IP1-2 students is designed to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world impact, nurturing the next generation of innovators and problem solvers.
At Temasek Academy, we believe that Science is not just a subject to be studied, but a tool to be wielded for the global good. Our Integrated Programme curriculum is built around scientific investigation skills, interdisciplinary mastery, and social responsibility.
Our students step into the shoes of engineers in our dedicated Makerspace. Using 3D printing technology, they move from ideation to creation, developing tangible solutions for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
Environmental Stewardship: Designing and testing autonomous floating trash removers to restore our river ecosystems.
Smart Sustainability: Prototyping IoT (Internet of Things) tools aimed at real-time energy conservation in urban environments.
In the digital realm, students go beyond basic syntax. They explore the frontier of Machine Learning (ML), training models to recognize complex patterns—from human poses to botanical species.
Vibe-Coding: Using modern, high-level AI-assisted coding workflows, students rapidly build functional applications.
Medical Informatics: Students apply their ML models to publicly available medical datasets. By training algorithms on X-rays, ultrasounds, and MRI scans, they create apps designed to assist in the early detection of pneumonia, brain tumors, and liver damage, emphasizing the role of AI in improving diagnostic efficiency.
Physics takes flight in our drone module. Students delve into the aerodynamics and mechanics of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Autonomous Navigation: Moving beyond manual remote control, students code their drones with Computer Vision capabilities.
Adaptive Intelligence: This allows the drones to perceive their environment and react to sudden obstacles or changes in real-time, simulating search-and-rescue or delivery scenarios.
Chemistry meets creativity in our hands-on soap-making module. Students dive into the scientific principles behind soap-making and discover how everyday products impact our environment.
Science in Action: From saponification to pH balance, students learn key chemistry concepts that drive the soap-making process.
Design-Based Inquiry (DBI): Using the DBI approach, students investigate, design, and manufacture their own custom soap, solving real-world problems like reducing environmental impact.
Science for Life: Beyond the lab, students build critical thinking and research skills while gaining an appreciation for sustainable practices that benefit both people and the planet.
Learning extends beyond our walls. Last year, our students embarked on a learning journey to the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS). There, they witnessed how robotics, AI, and smart manufacturing are revolutionizing the automobile industry and the future of electric mobility.
Our enrichment programme isn't just about "cool gadgets"—it is deeply rooted in established educational frameworks:
Constructionism: Proposed by Seymour Papert, this theory suggests that learning is most effective when students are actively making "tangible objects." Whether it is a 3D-printed boat or a line of code, the act of making reinforces deep conceptual understanding.
Problem-Based Learning (PBL): By framing projects around the UN SDGs, we ensure that students are solving "ill-structured," real-world problems. This develops Critical and Inventive Thinking (CIT), a core 21st-century competency.
"In Temasek Academy, we don't just teach Science; we empower students to build the world they want to live in."
