Welcome to the Student-Initiated Learning (SIL) programme, where you have the freedom to learn new skills, explore new activities, and gain valuable knowledge. Through SIL, we aim to ignite your passion for discovery and encourage you to explore new realms through these exciting opportunities!
Objectives
The Student-Initiated Learning (SIL) programme ties closely to the school’s vision of nurturing CCKsians with Future-ready Mindsets and Empathetic Hearts who Act Responsibly in the following ways:
Future-ready Mindsets: SIL empowers students to take charge of their learning by exploring new skills and passions beyond the classroom. This self-directed approach fosters critical thinking, adaptability, and lifelong learning—essential traits for thriving in an ever-changing future. By engaging with diverse modules, students learn to embrace challenges, innovate, and develop resilience.
Empathetic Hearts: Through SIL, students are encouraged to collaborate, share their knowledge, and reflect on their learning journey. Many modules place an emphasis on understanding others’ perspectives, cultivating empathy, and building meaningful connections within and beyond the school community.
Acting Responsibly: SIL instills a sense of ownership and responsibility in students as they manage their learning time and complete tasks independently. By showcasing their work, they also demonstrate accountability and pride in their efforts. SIL further teaches students to reflect on their actions, celebrate their growth, and contribute positively to the school and community.
The SIL programme thus acts as a dynamic platform that aligns with and brings to life the school’s vision, equipping students with the mindset, values, and skills to excel both now and in the future.
Approach
The SIL @ CCKSS programme, integrated into HBL day, promotes self-directed learning through a structured yet flexible approach. This programme develops self-directed learners while celebrating students' creativity, passion, and growth.
Session Structure Each module comprises three lessons with visual tutorials and curated readings to support independent exploration. Students receive an introductory handout before each module and complete reflections via Form.sg at the end, reinforcing their understanding and tracking progress. While activities take about an hour, students are encouraged to explore further, fostering lifelong learning and curiosity.
Celebrating Achievements At the end of each term, students showcase their learning in Learners' Unleashed, with artefacts displayed on a Google Site to inspire peers.
