Day 6

Visit to Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm & Bayon temples

After our successful VIA activities, it was time for us to reap the benefits of our hard work and go sight-seeing! We set off at 4.35 am and off we went to Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm and Bayon temples. We learnt more about the history of these temples and their significance to the Cambodian people. In the late afternoon, we were rewarded with an extra hour of shopping time at the night market.

Reflection

Alanis: The trip to Angkor Wat was truly magnificent as it was really beautiful under the early morning sunlight. We had to wake up at around 4.a.m to go to Angkor Wat, but it was worth it as we took many pictures with the rising sun in the back ground of the Angkor Wat. After all of that, we went in and learnt more about the history of Angkor Wat, the people in it and the wars they fought. It was interesting to listen to the tour guide as we all walked along the corridor if the temple, fascinated by the fantastic and detailed carvings made by the people in Cambodia a few centuries ago. It showed visitors about the wars the Cambodian people fought and their lives. There was a steep flight of steeps and some of us did not want to go, so only 12 of us, including the teachers and a guide, went up. It was worth the climb as the view form the top was better and more beautiful. After we went down, we continued to learn about its history and finally ending our trip to Angkor Wat by taking a bus to the next temple.

Reflection

Athirah: Visiting the temple , made me realised about the history and the background stories behind the carvings and the past of Cambodia. Angkor Wat is the greatest in Cambodia and largest religious monuments in the world. The temple was constructed as a Hindu temple, before it was converted to a Buddhism . I have also learnt a lot about Hinduism and the context behind it.

Ying Jie: I enjoyed the night market shopping as it was the only time I could get cheap and good things for my family. However, I feel I could work on my bargaining skills to get better deals.

We also attended the Apsara dance performance during dinner. The performance was simply magnificent. I wonder how the dancers managed to balance with such heavy head gear as well as , being able to move around so gracefully .
