Applied Learning Programme (ALP)

INTRODUCTION

The Applied Learning Programme (ALP), helmed primarily by the English Language Department, envisions our students to be ‘Effective communicators who impact with the heart and mind.’ That is, the department is committed to honing the communication skills of the Crestian student, as well as providing them with opportunities put their language competencies to good use for impact, effect and affect.

To achieve our vision, the department has designed and implemented performance tasks at all levels to hone students’ communicative ability. Our school has a two-tiered approach in delivering the programme:

Woven into the English Language curriculum, with programmes targeted at the whole student population.

A Special Interest Group for a selected group of Lower Secondary students who show a keen interest in developing their communication skills.

A Co-Curricular Activity that will further develop students’ skills in content creation and public speaking.

ENHANCED ALP (MOTHER TONGUE LANGUAGES)

Since 2018, the school has also embarked on the Enhanced ALP in Mother Tongue Languages. The MTL department works closely with the EL department to help students be effectively bilingual in speaking and writing.

Activities organized for the Tier 1 students include Show and Tell programme, 2 minutes speech programme, creating of video documentaries, digital story telling and interview skills workshop. Learning journeys were also organized to promote the use of MTLs beyond the classroom.

Tier 2 students who were more proficient in their Mother Tongue Languages took part in activities such as debate and songwriting competitions.
