Tiny Wonders, Big Ideas is the theme for this year's Singapore Youth Festival. In conjunction with SG60, our students collaborated with one another to create artworks which transform the way we see and imagine Singapore. Find out more.
Students love talking about their artworks! Instead of simply praising, consider spending a few minutes to discuss with your child about their artwork. Below are some suggested questions you may ask to uncover what your child is thinking during the artmaking process.
How to start the conversation?
Describe what catches your eyes when looking at a child's artwork. For example:
I see many geometric shapes here.
I see that you added many different types of lines for the sky.
Be curious! Ask open-ended questions.
Instead of assuming what a child had drawn, try asking:
What is happening over here?
What material did you use to create this effect?
What do you like about your artwork?
Share your feelings about the artwork.
Being open about what you think or feel shows them that you care about they had created!
