The New Town Lower Primary Experience

In New Town, we believe that learning should be authentic and fun. Experiential learning is a key area in our curriculum for students to stay creative, curious and confident. Through our Speech and Drama programme, students have the opportunity to fire their imagination and bring a story or poem to life through a series of theatre forms. As they work together with friends, their creativity and curiosity are ignited beyond the stories.

Books come to life, especially for Primary 1 and 2 when reading 'A Butterfly Is Born', our students observe the transformation from a caterpillar to a butterfly. This intrigues and excites our students because their experiences enrich their writing. New Town students even write and post letters to their friends as a language writing activity. Imagine the joy when you receive a letter addressed to you!

Do you know students can present their emotions using LEGO® bricks in our customised Programme for Active Learning (PAL)? In 'Junior Builder', students share their thoughts and feelings using LEGO builds. Presenting the ideas in front of the class gives our students the opportunity to learn about themselves and others and to develop social-emotional learning (SEL) competencies required in the 21st Century.

Our students learn to count and classify when visiting the Singapore Zoological Gardens in our Outdoor Learning Experience (OLE). At various enclosures, our students record the number of giraffes eating from trees or the number of baby monkeys with their mothers. These activities are specially designed to develop targeted language features and provide opportunities for Mathematical concepts to be applied in real, meaningful contexts.
