Ramayana by Karish (6 Gra 2026)
Chapter 1: The Giant Bow (Dhanur Yajna)
Once, there was a king named Dasharatha who ruled the kingdom of Ayodhya. He had three wives and four sons. His eldest son, Rama, was blessed by the gods and was often described as having skin the color of a dark rain cloud.
One day, Rama was traveling with Lakshmana, the brother to whom he was closest. They arrived in the kingdom of Mithila, where a contest was being held. The prize was the hand of Princess Sita in marriage. The moment Rama set eyes upon Sita, he knew he had to win.
The challenge was daunting: whoever could lift the giant Bow of Shiva, string it, and pull the string tight would be the winner. Many powerful men tried to move the bow, but they could not budge it an inch. A hush fell over the crowd, followed by cheers, as Rama stepped forward.
As Rama lifted the massive weapon, the bow emitted a deep, groaning sound. He effortlessly tied the string to both ends and pulled it tighter and tighter until—with a deafening crack—the bow snapped in half! The sound was so powerful it resonated throughout the city and echoed all the way back to Ayodhya.
The crowd erupted in cheers. King Dasharatha traveled to Mithila for the grand celebration. In a beautiful ceremony, Rama and Sita were wed. To make the occasion even more joyous, Lakshmana married Sita’s sister, Urmila, while the other brothers, Bharata and Shatrughna, married Sita's cousins. As Rama led Sita into the palace gardens, he remarked, “I think we will live happily forever.”
But as with any great epic, peace rarely lasts...
