9.2.1 What is involved in troubleshooting?
Check the power supply
Use a multimeter to check the supply of power to the prototype.
Do a visual check
Look carefully at all components for signs that might indicate the problems.
Do a smell check
When electronic components overheat , they may give off a distinct burning smell.
Check for signal presence
Use a multimeter to check that the required signals can pass through the wires between two points. If the wires are frayed or broken inside , the electrical and electronic signals will be irregular or absent.
Check for faulty components and replace them
Replace any faulty components , but be careful when doing so , especially if desoldering and resoldering are needed.
Check for mechanical seizures
Mechanical seizures can occur in a prototype with electronic and mechanical components. Components that are not properly aligned or mounted can also block the path of other moving parts.
