While the objective of a gamified learning experience is often to increase students' engagement and/or provide a novel experience, it is imperative that teachers help their learners make tight links between the learning experience and the intended learning outcomes.
This can be done via reflection questions that help develop students metacognition by getting them to think about what they have experienced and how it relates to what they are trying to learn. Some reflection questions are suggested below.
Here are some questions you may use via the Custom Interactive Thinking Tool to facilitate a class debrief:
What is the most important thing I have learnt about <Learning Outcome> from completing the games?
What did I find most difficult to overcome/understand about <Learning Outcome>?
How might my classmates and/or teacher help me with <Learning Outcome>?
You may encourage students to respond to each others' reflection and thereafter address the common themes that emerge from the whole class.
