Mrs Margaret Roberts stands as a luminary figure in geography education, with a career spanning decades marked by profound impact and unwavering dedication. As a former President of the (Geography Association (GA) and a longstanding member of the GA’s Teacher Education Phase Committee, Margaret's contributions have been recognized with an MBE in the 2021 New Year's Honours list for her exemplary services to education.
Since the 1990s, Margaret has been at the forefront of shaping geography education. During her tenure as a teacher educator at the University of Sheffield, she directly influenced countless geography teachers, leaving an indelible mark on both the city and beyond. Her guidance and expertise have nurtured a generation of educators, instilling in them not just knowledge, but a passion for inquiry and critical thinking.
Margaret's impact extends far beyond the classroom. As a former editor of the GA’s Teaching Geography journal and the author of seminal works such as "Learning through Enquiry"; (2003) and "Geography Through Enquiry" (2023), her research and practical wisdom have transcended borders, enriching classroom teaching worldwide. Through her extensive contributions to GA journals and publications, Margaret has provided educators with invaluable tools and insights to enhance their pedagogy.
Professor Chang is a renowned social-cultural geographer specializing in tourism and urbanization in Asia. His pioneering research delves into arts, culture, and heritage in urban settings, urban tourism, gentrification, and urban redevelopment. He is particularly noted for his work in Critical Asian Tourism Studies (CATS).
T. C. earned his Ph.D. from McGill University in 1997 and became Full Professor in July, 2024. Throughout his distinguished career, he has served in various key academic and administrative roles, including Deputy Head of the Geography Department (2006-2007), Assistant Dean for Alumni Relations in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (2008 - 2010), Vice Dean for External Relations and Student Life (2010 - 2015), and Deputy Director of NUS Global Relations (2017 - 2018).
T. C.’s excellence in teaching has been recognised through numerous accolades, including the NUS Outstanding Educator Award in 2006. He has received the Annual Teaching Excellence Awards (ATEA) for 2007/08, 2019/20, and 2021/22, along with the Faculty Teaching Excellence Awards (FTEA) from 2018/19 to 2021/22. His sustained commitment to educational excellence has earned him a place on the ATEA Honour Roll for 2024 - 2028.
