The Geography Teaching Notes is developed by the Geography Unit at CPDD to support the implementation of a revised syllabus. It aims to provide teachers with clearer guidance on the suggested scope of content delivery and practical applications, explain the key concepts, and suggest examples that illustrate the prescribed learning content and/or conceptual ideas. These notes are mainly crafted using the reference books provided to schools, and additional resources used or for use are indicated in the footnotes and at the end of the document.

Huge congratulations to our brilliant Dr Tricia Seow for her fantastic entry in The Encyclopedia of Human Geography! She has written a chapter on Fieldwork in Geography, which celebrates fieldwork as geography's signature pedagogy, including special recognition of the wonderful work done by our Geography fraternity. Thank you for your contribution!

[130226]: Earth Alive Inter-School Challenge 2026: Register Now!

The Earth Alive Inter-School Challenge is a geography-themed competition organised by the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) at NTU Singapore and Science Centre Singapore. The Challenge aims to expand talent development in Geography in Singapore by engaging youth on natural hazards and climate change, and we are pleased to announce that registration for this year’s Earth Alive Inter-School Challenge is now open.

 REGISTER HERE

Schools can register a maximum of 2 teams consisting of up to 4 students from any level.
Registrations close on 25 March 2026, Wednesday, or when there are 32 participating teams.

The Earth Alive Inter-School Challenge consists of 3 missions over 2 events:  

1. Webinar with Scientists 
Date: 30 March, Monday  

Time/duration: Late afternoon, approximately 1 hour 

Mission #1 (short video) will be announced during the Webinar. 

2. Challenge Finale 
Date: 20 April, Monday  

Time/duration: Half-day event starting at 12.00pm, with on-site registration starting at 11.00am (TBC)
Location: Science Centre Singapore

Mission #2 (quiz and case study) and Mission #3 (Dynamic Earth Games stations) will take place at Science Centre Singapore. Points will be combined with points from Mission #1 (short video) to determine an overall winner. The winning team will be announced at the prize presentation ceremony on the same day.

[130224] CPDD Workshop on School Based Assessment for 2023 Pre-U Geography

This half-day workshop, facilitated by CPDD, prepares teachers for the implementation of the 2023 H1/H2 Geography Syllabuses. Participants will learn to: (i) develop question papers according to the scheme of assessment and prescribed syllabus content; (ii) craft mark schemes that indicate the marking approach, range of acceptable answers and mark allocation; and (iii) apply mark schemes to assess students’ answers.
