Values in action (VIA)

Values in Action (VIA) @Fuchun

At Fuchun Primary, our Values-in-Action initiatives are dedicated to fostering empathy and gratitude in students, evolving from self-awareness to involvement in the school and broader community. Engaging in diverse activities and projects, we provide authentic situations for students to practice serving and leading with empathy, gaining an understanding of various perspectives, and responding with compassion.

We hold the belief that active participation in learning about, appreciating, and contributing to the community is instrumental in developing a student's sense of commitment. This commitment, in turn, inspires them to play an important role in enhancing Singapore, contributing to the collective effort to create a better place for all.

Our Level VIA Initiatives

VIA@ P1 & 2

For our youngest students in Primary 1 and 2, our emphasis lies in cultivating self-awareness and self-management. We provide opportunities for them to showcase these skills by engaging in basic routines within the school environment and extending these practices to their homes through the 'I am a Young Fuchunian' programme'

VIA@ P3 & 4

As our Fuchunians progress to Primary 3 and 4, our goal is to instill positive habits and foster gratitude. Specifically, our P4 students actively participate in planning and executing the Staff Appreciation Day. This involvement allows them to recognize the efforts of their 'daily heroes' among the school staff and gain a deeper understanding of their roles. Witnessing these students express appreciation towards the indispensable non-teaching staff members within our school community is truly heartwarming.

VIA@ P4 to 6

In partnership with Orange Valley Senior Activity Centre, our P4 & 5 student leaders and P6 students conduct mini carnivals, put up musical performances, and engage the seniors from the centre in dance activities as part of their Values-in-Action (VIA) community outreach.

This initiative aims to nurture compassion, empathy, and community engagement among our Fuchunians through meaningful interactions with the elderly community. We strongly believe that this experience will not only bring a positive impact to the elderly but also contribute to the personal growth and development of our students. Through this initiative, we aim to instill in our students the significance of giving back to the community, fostering a sense of responsibility and care for others.

‘It was an enriching and fulfilling experience to be able to organize games and play carnival games with the elderly. I truly enjoyed my VIA activity with my form class"

The activity aims to promote and instill responsibility and self-management in the students through the emphasis on the importance of managing daily routines such as conducting wipe-down in class and tidying their school bags and pencil cases.

During the session, the students recycled waste papers found in their bags, and arranged their books and files in an orderly manner. Some of them mentioned that their bags now feel much lighter than before. Let’s take a look at our responsible Fuchunians.
