Impact of Tiktok on General Anxiety Disorder in teenagers

River Valley High School (Singapore)

Our paper seeks to examine how TikTok, a social media platform, can cause General Anxiety Disorder (GAD) through lowering the self-esteem of teenagers in Singapore. TikTok has exploded in popularity since 2016, with 500 million active users worldwide. General Anxiety Disorder (GAD) refers to a syndrome of ongoing anxiety and worry about many events or thoughts that the patient generally recognised as excessive and inappropriate. This is important as the wrong concept of doing anything to get the ‘best body’ is transmitted to large groups of teenagers, seriously affecting the physical and mental health of teenagers, and leading to problems like the GAD, thus going against Goal 3 of Sustainable Development which is to ensure healthy lives and promote well being for all at all ages. Through our research, we found out that while TikTok can negatively affect a person, its impact is dependent on the type of content viewed by the individual. It is crucial that teenagers play a part in effectively protecting themselves from the negative impacts of TikTok by keeping a balanced media diet. Our findings aim to help future app creators to improve on the applications and functions of future social media platforms.

Predicting saltwater intrusion and its impact on agricultural land use using Geostatistics

Case study : Tha Chin River Basin, Central Thailand

Mahidol Wittayanusorn School (Thailand)

Water is one of the important natural resources for human life, which is used as an important production factor in agriculture, industry, and service. In Thailand, water consumption in agriculture is about 90% of the total water consumption in the country, which shows that water is an important resource to drive the economy and well-being of the country. Thailand faces water resources problems due to natural factors such as climate change, which causes the amount of water in the system to fluctuate and human factors, including urbanization and human activities. Both of these factors cause changes in physical and chemical properties of water. Water resources problems can be identified into two categories that are qualitative and quantitative, which have relationships in different geographical features. Studying water behavior is therefore an important aspect of sustainable water resource management.

The Geographic Information System (GIS) is an important tool for the analysis and planning of water management problems. In this study, the focus is on the analysis of water quality problems in the lower reaches of the river. First, studying the factors of seawater intrusion problems from the coast of the Gulf of Thailand and Tha Chin River Basin. Then, analyzing the statistical relationship of physical variables and present the analysis results for predicting saltwater intrusion as a source or spatial data from the relationship of relevant variables in order to propose solutions or as information for water management in the Tha Chin River Basin.

Can Fashion Ever Be Sustainable?

Nan Chiau High School (Singapore)

Our team aims to explore the possibilities of how fashion and sustainability can co-exist. We will share about how fashion contributes to consumption and production patterns which unintentionally causes a variety of adverse environmental impacts. We have also explored some locals' perception towards sustainable fashion and we gained some useful insights from our survey results as well as research about how fashion can be made more sustainable from both the consumer and producer's point of view.
