Our overseas learning journey began with the group’s arrival at Hainan Meilan International Airport (HMIA), located in Haikou, the capital city of Hainan Province. The airport was officially opened on May 25, 1999, and currently operates a total of 220 flight routes, comprising 211 domestic routes, 2 regional routes, and 7 international routes.
Insight into Education in China – The school immersion programme provided valuable exposure for both students and teachers, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of China’s education system, teaching approaches, and school culture. This meaningful exchange enriched their perspectives and offered new ideas that can benefit their learning and teaching practices.
Our second day of school immersion at Haikou No.1 Middle School was filled with rich cultural experiences, as we tried our hand at traditional Chinese calligraphy and Wushu. In the afternoon, we embarked on a breathtaking journey from Haikou to Sanya aboard a high-speed train, marveling at the efficiency of China’s modern rail system and the scenic countryside unfolding outside our windows. The day came to a perfect close with a stunning cultural performance at Sanya Romance Park, followed by a visit to the picturesque Lu Hui Tou, where we enjoyed the evening views and reflected on the day’s unforgettable moments.
The highlight of the day began with a visit to the Hainan Betel Nut Valley Li and Miao Cultural Tourism Zone (海南槟榔谷黎苗文化旅游区), where the group gained a deeper understanding of the Li people (黎族) and their rich cultural heritage in Sanya. The next visit to Wugong Temple (五公寺) further enhanced our appreciation of Hainan’s history, offering insights into the lives and contributions of five renowned officials from the Tang and Song Dynasties who played significant roles in the island’s development.
