As part of Home-Based Learning (HBL), all secondary school students will embark on Student-Initiated Learning (SIL).

What exactly is SIL?

• A dedicated time (1h) on HBL days for students to explore personal interests

• An opportunity for students to be independent, passionate and lifelong learners

• At NV, we aim to integrate this initiative with building essential digital competencies

Theme

• • Sec 1 - Interest Exploration

  • Sec 2 - Code for Fun (Team)

  • Sec 3 - Passion & Career Exploration

  • Sec 4/5 - Post-Sec Pathway Exploration (No showcase)

Process

• • Plan proposal on a provided Google Doc (Class SIL Google Classroom)

  • Carry out activities safely at home

  • Submit digital artefact of learning (Class SIL Google Classroom)

  • Share during SIL Showcase (Term 3)

• Staff:                         30 Dec 2025 (Tue)

• Sec 1-3 Students:     23 Jan 2026 Feb (Fri) 

• Sec 4 & 5 Students: 20 Jan 2026 (Tue)

• Parents: 

  • • Start of 2026 - A brief overview of HBL & SIL was included in the Term 1 letter to parents via PG.  

    • 16 Jan 2026 (Fri) - A PG message with information on HBL & SIL will be sent to parents.
