What is NV HBL?
HBL engages students in curriculum learning through less structured, asynchronous approaches, providing flexibility for self-directed planning and time management.
Learning incorporates different modes, with teachers assigning a mixture of on- and off-screen work.
On HBL days, students stay home and complete learning tasks remotely, following the regular timetable subjects for that specific day.
Instructions are communicated via the SLS Planner.
Time set aside during HBL Days for Student-Initiated Learning (SIL).
Typical Structure of a HBL Day in NV
Check the Timetable to see which subjects are scheduled for HBL. For example, if HBL falls on an Odd Wednesday, you will complete the work for subjects typically scheduled on Odd Wednesdays in the timetable.
Refer to the SLS Planner for specific subject instructions and required tasks.
Complete the assigned work at your own pace, ensuring all tasks are submitted by the given deadline.
Explore planned interests as part of Student-Initiated Learning (SIL)
Student-initiated activity (SIL) to be planned and carried out at home. For safety reason, students must be share their plans with both parent/guardian and Form Teachers.
HBL for 2026 follows a more flexible scheduling rather than the fortnightly arrangement experienced in 2025.
HBL now falls on any day of the week with subjects covered following the regular timetable for that specific day. This change allows a wider variety of subjects to be featured in HBL and allows HBL days to support school programmes.
