Benedict's test: Test for reducing sugar (cannot test for sucrose)
Positive result: (glucose, maltose, fructose etc.)
brick red precipitate (a large amount of reducing sugar)
Negative result: Remains blue (sucrose)
Steps: Add equal volume of Benedict's reagent to sample into a test tube. Mix well. Place the test tube in a boiling water bath for 2-3 minutes. Record observation.
