Music Updates
Term 1
For this term, students will learn Children's Songs from around the world. Exposure to these songs will encourage awareness and appreciation of different cultures around the world.
P1 students will be introduced to basic music concepts such as metre, rhythm, and pitch through singing and playing music games. Students will learn how to sing "Johnny Works With One Hammer" together with the actions.
P2 students will revise these concepts and learn new songs to reinforce their understanding. They will also apply their knowledge to new tasks. Students will learn "Tian Tian Zao QI Shang Xue Xiao".
P3 and P4 students will experience singing and movement activities. They will learn more complicated choreographies to increase task sophistication. Rhythm activities will challenge students to stay on the beat and play as an ensemble. Students will apply their knowledge of pitch and rhythm to resonator bells and barred instruments. P3 students will learn "Ickle Ockle", an English Folk Song while P4 students will learn "Fruit Canon", a Norwegian Children's Choral piece.
P5 and P6 students will learn partner songs to challenge their musicality. P5 students will learn "Breakfast Calypso", a piece which combines an American Folk Song and two original pieces by Lucinda Geoghegan for General Music lessons. P6 students will learn "Apple Tree", a composed Kodaly song which will be partnered with "Pomme De Reinette Et Pomme D'api", a French Folk Song.
