For the past two weeks, some P4 classes had gone on their museum-based learning (MBL) journey to the National Gallery of Singapore for exposure to local art as part of students’ understanding of Singapore history and heritage. Many of the students have expressed awe and wonder at the beautiful architecture of the old Supreme Court and City Hall buildings, as well as the amazing collection of local artworks exhibited there. We hope parents can encourage their children's curiosity and interest in our rich culture and heritage by bringing them to local museums during the weekends and school holidays. The docents at NGS were impressed by many of our students' art knowledge that we had taught during our lessons and were glad that they had adhered to the museum etiquette they learnt as part of our P4 MBL module. Let us continue to work together in this journey to nurture our children's holistic development.

Term 4 Weeks 9 - 10
P6 – As we near the close of Term 4, students have completed their study as well as their artworks by delving into the works of artist and illustrator Tan Zi Xi. To be able to simulate the plastic pool's surroundings.
P5 – Students attempted creating the second print, and it improved with each clear and clean print. The printmaking process was enjoyable for the students since they were able to experiment with different color prints and practices.
P4 – We educate students how to make meaningful artwork out of recycled paper. To be able to give discarded materials new life. It also encourages students to be creative by considering different methods to recycle the materials.
P3 – The pop-up cards have been completed, and students have been tasked with writing a card for someone significant to them. We've also kept drawing the pop-up card with different animals.
P2 – We continue with the plasticine lesson by having the students write down what they have learnt and what they can remember from all of our plasticine classes. We will share what students have written in our blog update.
P1 – Every student will be given the opportunity to come forward and present what they have learned as well as what they are making.
Term 4 Weeks 7 - 8
P6 – We showed students the work of artist and illustrator Tan Zi Xi.The artist recreated a physical manifestation of the Pacific Garbage Patch, where children and adults could experience being immersed in a space covered with trash, simulating the environment of the ‘plastic pool’.
P5 – Students will discuss where and why they chose Singapore as a focus of interest for their printmaking. We are currently in the process of printing, but we will ensure that all students experience and try their best to create a clean and clear print.
P4 – Students will use recycled paper to create mixed media pieces in 2D and 3D. It is beneficial for students to use recycled materials. In addition, recycle art promotes an important message. It serves as a reminder of the issues facing our planet and serves to inspire others to change their lifestyle and reuse their items in new, creative ways.
P3 – These pop up cards can be used as birthday cards, greeting cards, and other similar occasions. We are now working on the Pop up cards, and once completed, they will be tasked with writing this card for someone special to them.
P2 – We continue with the plasticine lesson by having the students write down what they have learnt and what they can remember from all of our plasticine classes. We will share what students have written in our blog update.
P1 – Every student will be given the opportunity to come forward and present what they have learned as well as what they are making.
Term 4 Weeks 5 - 6
P6 - We will use recycled materials to assemble, build, construct. We have gathered our students to make group works by collecting kitchen towels, toilet paper cores, potato chip containers, cereal/pasta cardboard boxes, plastic containers, and various other items to create your own version of a Fantasy Castle. We will also ask students to write their own artist statement on what their artwork represents or is meant for. Most artists who use materials that have been discarded so to make a statement about pressing environmental issues.
P5 – Create small, achievable achievements for the students with the previous lesson. The students successfully carved an A5 foam board in the next lesson. By meticulously cutting out the design, students were able to produce a clear and clean print. The following task will focus on Singapore’s point of interest. Let’s see what the students are going to recreate! 😊
P4 – We will be introducing Mixed Media Art, Part 2, to P4 students in our upcoming lesson. Students will create and construct a diorama using shoeboxes or recycled materials featuring Hokusai’s The Great Wave and other elements (boats, animals, etc) Students will build a model of a scene with three-dimensional figures. Let's build with recycled materials and see how we can include both 2D and 3D into our model.
P3 – We would like students to develop Pop up cards with the introduction of 3D paper sculptures! Students can personalize and bring the design to life by transforming the traditionally two-dimensional greeting into a three-dimensional world through the use of flaps, revolving parts, and other moveable pieces to enhance the wording. These pop up cards can be used as birthday cards, greeting cards, and so on.
P2 – The main theme of our plasticine lesson was marine creatures. The topic was on Octopus, and each student has been given a paper plate to construct an octopus covered in designs built from simple lines and shapes. The students were told to make as many patterns and designs as they could using all of the available area on the paper plate. 😊
P1 - In our 3D world, our topic is My Beautiful Garden. In this coming lesson, we will focus on a bug’s life, and through implementing the basics that we’ve learned on constructing basic forms, we can assist students in creating plasticine trees in more ordered steps throughout our plasticine session. Let’s have a look at the garden that our students are constructing! 😊
Term 4 Weeks 3 - 4
P6 - As a continuation of our first two lessons, we have gathered little bits of inorganic rubbish, such as candy wrappers, bottle caps, plastic bags, and crumpled used paper, to make a 2D or 3D model of an ocean that is teeming with trash. Students were encouraged to include marine life or people in their group projects. We look forward to seeing how P6 kids expressed their worries and suggestions for an artwork that will inspire less pollution.
P5 – Students in P5 have experimented with printmaking using foam board for carving out their chosen design. The foam board's entire carved surface will next be carefully and evenly painted by the students. In order to produce a clean and clear print, it is crucial to make sure that the grooves or indents aren't filled with paint. Since the majority of the students were able to obtain clear prints, we will use larger foam in our following lesson to increase the difficulties 😊
P4 – All of the students were eager to create their collage Picasso self-portrait. Students use color and facial feature shapes to convey a certain emotion. This time, we will encourage students to express themselves through an artist statement, and everyone will get a chance to present their statement and work of art to the class as a whole. It is important to give students the chance to publicly present themselves and their works of art.
P3 – The student' art task is to design a playground made of 3D paper sculptures. The students experimented with several paper sculpture techniques, and their conceptions were rather unique. In our upcoming session, we'll encourage kids to speak up and express their own ideas while also considering others' ideas by making art. This allows every student in the class to share their thoughts, opinions, and artistic works.
P2 - Our plasticine lesson's major focus were jellyfish. Each student has been given a colored piece of paper to build a jellyfish that is covered with patterns made from simple lines and shapes. The students were instructed to create as many patterns and designs as possible using what they had learned from the Term 3 Romero Britto session. Therefore, we will be interested in seeing how much of our pattern- and design-filled jellyfish artwork they can incorporate.
P1 - In our 3D world, our topic is My Beautiful Garden, and by applying the fundamentals we've learned about constructing basic forms, we can help students make plasticine trees in more structured steps throughout our plasticine session. Let's check out the garden that our students are creating!
Term 4 Weeks 1 - 2

P6 - 'One man's trash is another's man treasure' would be the theme for this semester. We'll emphasize reducing, reusing, and recycling while also giving them advice on how to organize their belongings and recycle any extras. Next, we'll explain how long we've been polluting the ocean and how everyone can do their part to help protect the environment. Last but not least, assisting kids in differentiating between recyclable objects would undoubtedly inspire them to recycle more. We'll look into several recycling options for things like old toys.
P5 - For this term 4 semester, we will be teaching Primary 5 about printmaking's history and basic methods. Students will get the opportunity to create their own prints using unique Relief printmaking methods. Students who have learned relief printing will be able to utilize this technique to make invitation cards, greeting cards, packaging, and other items since it allows artists to distribute their work to a large audience and printmaking provided a way to simply reproduce works. Printmaking is a fantastic process art exercise for students because it allows them to experiment with a variety of textures, colors, and patterns.
P4 - In Term 4, we will start teaching Primary 4 mixed media art methods. This method creates an artwork by fusing two or more media together. using tools like colored pencils, markers, crayons, water colors, etc. We will concentrate on Pablo Picasso's development as a self-portrait artist and how his work has changed over time. We will use colored paper and wet and dry media to convert our 2D drawing into a 3D form. Students will design their own 3D Picasso faces to convey a certain feeling by the color and shape of the characteristics on their faces.
P3 - Students will investigate and learn many techniques for using supplies and tools to create art on their own. By letting students express their own views and take into account those of others in their artwork and during the creative process, we may help kids become more self-assured. Students will be given the assignment of making paper sculptures by only mixing or molding paper. The pupils' challenges would be to construct a playground. Let's explore the type of playground that kids prefer.
P2 -Students would be exploring plasticine material in art class this term. Learn the fundamentals of using plasticine to build basic shapes. Students will be able to express their creativity, thoughts, and feelings via art through the theme of marine life. Jellyfish from the category of Marine Creatures would be the focus of our plasticine lesson.
P1 - Hello again! We will teach pupils in Primary 1 about Plasticine Art. The 3D world they will be experiencing has the subject of My Beautiful Garden. Students will master the fundamentals of shaping simple shapes through the plasticine lesson.

Term 3 Weeks 7 - 8
P6 - This week, students will study drawing from a landscape viewpoint. Students can see how objects that are closer to them, such as trees, buildings, and houses, appear larger than those that are farther away by completing this art project.
P5 - Last week, pupils were given an introduction to renowned artist Andy Warhol. With this understanding, students will use complementary colors to create their own Pop Art creations.
P4 - On carbon paper, the students will draw their own faces. Students have also been taught how to create their own portraits following simple template instructions. Students were also urged to incorporate in their drawings any items that could be seen as self-representative of them.
P3 -We finished the silhouette watercolor painting last week.. We'll be introducing folk artist Heather Galler this week! Together, we will construct a piece of art that includes a composition and horizon line to teach students how to draw with different sizes in an artwork.
P2 - Before drawing actual foliage and fruit, we advised students to use their imaginations. After students have finished creating drawings using their imaginations, we will compare the differences between creating drawings using what they think and creating drawings using what they observe.
P1 - We'll be drawing landscapes in the manner of Romero Britto. Each student will keep adding patterns to their collection so they can incorporate as many patterns and designs as possible into their artwork.
Term 3 Weeks 5 - 6
P6 - When given the chance to select whatever they wish to add in their one point perspective picture, students have displayed creativity, and several of them have managed to impress us.
P5 - Students are able to experiment with color combinations as we continue to finish painting the color wheels. This brings us to this week's theme of pop art, where we introduce renowned artist Andy Warhol.
P4 - The international artists Frida Kahlo and Vincent Van Gogh will be reviewed this week. We shall investigate their self-portrait paintings in more detail. We will investigate what makes an artwork iconic and distinctive, and the students' art assignment will involve making a self-portrait that highlights any distinctive characteristics or qualities.
P3 - This week, students will produce original works of art using landscape backgrounds and consider adding characters, animals, and objects to their drawings. Students get to practice wet-on-dry watercolor painting after finishing the drawing.
P2 - This time, we will examine fruits under a magnifying glass. Fruits are something we encounter and consume frequently. With this, we hope students can observe what is presented to them everyday.
P1 - We make an effort to sketch a variety of animals this week. Students have the option of including unique backgrounds and plant shapes for the animal.
Term 3 Weeks 3 - 4
P6 - Students can create their name drawing using the one point perspective concept by utilizing their knowledge of Vanishing point and Horizon line. By drawing their name on a flat piece of paper, students were able to create the three-dimensional effect.
P5 - In the previous lesson, students created a color wheel. This guide enables students to create artwork using warm and cool colors. During the comparison of warmness and coolness of colors, students were able to tell the contrast between the colors.
P4 - With the introduction of self portraits through Museum based learning, we asked students to draw portraits of their friends. Throughout the lesson, everyone laughed a lot and enjoyed themselves. Following that, we instructed the pupils to attempt creating their own portraits using the provided portrait template.
P3 - After that, we went over Wassily Kandinsky's Color Values in Art so that the students could design their works of art using bright, medium, and dark elements. In their artworks with a natural subject, students demonstrated their awareness of light and darkness by employing color values to merge the backdrop.
P2 - Students will be able to see through magnifying glasses that, despite being such small things, leaves contain a great deal of intricacies. We allow pupils to examine and sketch the finer characteristics of the leaves. We have scheduled a session to bring children to the school garden so they may examine all the various leaves that we frequently overlook up close. Everyone enjoyed using a magnifying lens to explore the natural world.
P1 - This week, the focus shifted to animals, and each student had the opportunity to design a pop art pet with Romero Britto's art style. In order to encourage pupils to learn about various patterns, we forbid them from utilizing the same pattern library that was used for the last love drawing.
Term 3 Weeks 1 - 2
P6 - Students learnt about perspective, which helps them understand the representation of three-dimensional objects or spaces in two-dimensional artwork. The use of perspective drawing is a method for creating a linear illusion of depth.
P5 - Students need to learn more about colors, shades, shades and tones in order to increase their confidence when they color. The combination of primary, secondary, and tertiary colors led to the creation of many colors. In class, everyone gets to build their own color wheel.
P4 - We present students to a selection of works exhibited in a learning journey at the National Gallery Singapore. Georgette Chen and Low Kway Song's actual portrait artworks are shown to students. After the visit, we engaged students in discussion to consolidate what they have learnt and observed during the museum visit.
P3 - The introduction of Wassily Kandinsky to the class allows students to appreciate the colors and shapes in his paintings. In creating a work with many colors and shapes, everybody has the experience of creating abstract works.
P2 - One of the most influential figures in Modernism was Georgia O' Keeffe. Her large-format paintings of natural subjects, particularly flowers, are her most well-known works. The students gained knowledge on how to observe their surroundings and appreciate nature.
P1 - Romero Britto's artworks and art style were introduced to students. From there, students learn a variety of ideas of patterns and designs. Everyone in class will have the opportunity to create their own pattern library. Then, using heart-shaped objects and other pattern designs they had learned, we asked the children to create their own works of art with the topic of love.
SYF Art Exhibition 2023
We are proud to share that our students did very well for their collaborative artwork submissions to the Singapore Art Festival Art Exhibition 2023. All our art pieces were our pride and joy! Our students in the 3 categories: CAT A - P1-P2, CAT B - P3-P4 and CAT C - P5-P6, worked diligently, passionately and creatively in their art making journey during MCCA periods in Term 2 to create their wonderful finale pieces. These amazing artworks were submitted to the SYF panel for selection and we are ecstatic that two out of the three submitted were selected.
Congratulations to all students for your achievement!
