Dear students,
Welcome to the Student-Initiated Learning Google Site. We encourage you to spend this time exploring your interests beyond the classroom.
Inspired to learn Korean, thanks to all the K-drama you have been watching? How about anime-drawing? Or finding out how planes work, if you'd love to be a pilot one day?
If these (and more) excite you, then we are off to a great start. Enjoy your journey :)
SIL offers you some "white space" to explore your interests. White space refers to time that has been freed up and set aside for you to reflect, refocus, and recharge.
Why is this important? Because learning is meant to be enjoyable!
Also, did you know that some very useful inventions were a result of white space? Think 3M post-it notes and even Gmail. Just like our school, some companies encourage their staff to make use of white space to get creative.
How does SIL work in our school? Watch the video to learn from your seniors!
You will need to select a topic for your SIL this year. Need ideas?
(1) Check out the topics on the right. Do any interest you?
(2) If not, click on the SIL Festival tab (the top right hand corner of this site) to view some of your friends' SIL projects from last year. That may give you some inspiration!
There are many ways you could progress on your work. Here are some examples to get you started.

Final product: Create a video of yourself doing a 20 minute full body workout.

Final product: Create an infographic to share with your friends what you've learned about drone-flying in your research.

Topic: Home, Truly. National Museum Digital Exhibition
Steps: View the online exhibition to find out what life was like for your parents and grandparents growing up in Singapore (Click: Home Truly (roots.gov.sg).
Final Product: Conduct an oral interview with your parents/grandparents to uncover hidden stories about their lives back then. What games did they play back then? Do they have memories of Yishun or of our school? Then create a podcast or infographic or comic strip to share their stories.
These are just some examples but you do not need to be limited by them. Feel free to explore other topics and showcase your learning in other ways!
