Are you game to take on the challenge?
In line with the Science Department’s goal of igniting students’ passion in the authentic learning of Science and to develop 21st century thinking skills in our students, you now have a chance to participate in the AES Self-Development Programme (SDP) for Science.
In order to support you in your learning of Science at a more demanding level, the department has prepared self-directed lesson packages and self-assessment quizzes online for you to access. You will need to take the time to go through these resources independently, and demonstrate that you have understood the concepts in order to be considered for Subject-Based Banding (SBB) for Science.
By joining the AES Self-Development Programme (SDP), you are expected to:
1) watch the lesson videos,
2) download and attempt the worksheets and
3) complete the Self-Assessment Quizzes.
This Lower Secondary Science Syllabus is a continuation and further development of the Primary Science Syllabus. It is also a bridge to, and a foundation for, the pursuit of scientific studies at upper secondary levels.
Goal: Science for Life and Society
The twin goals of the LSS Syllabus are:
• To enthuse and nurture all students to be scientifically literate.
• To provide strong science foundations for students.
Visions: Inspire, Innovate, Inquire
Through LSS, we envision students to inquire, innovate and be inspired about Science.
The outer ring represents the domains that make up the strong science fundamentals: Core Ideas, Practices, and the Values, Ethics and Attitudes.
The pair of hands in the Framework represents the roles of students as inquirers in their learning and pursuit of science, supported by teachers and partners as facilitators of the students’ learning experiences, to impart the excitement and value of science to the students.
