WATER POLO

Water polo is a team water sport. It is the oldest continuous Olympic team sport. The playing team consisits of six field players and one goalkeeper with a maximum of six substitutes. The winner of the game is the team that score more goals. The game invovles swimming players passing the ball while being defeated by opponents, and scoring by throwing into a net defended by a goalie. Water polo, therefore, has strong similarities to the land-based games of team handball and often draws comparsions with ice hockey from the frequency of 'man-up'(or 'power play') situations

The ideal water polo athlete can be best described as having the over-arm accuracy of a baseball pitcher, the vertical leap of a volleyball player, the toughness of a rugby player, the endurance of a cross-country runner and the strategy of a chess player.
