Shortlist Criteria and Performance Tasks

Shortlist Criteria

1. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit any existing video recording of themselves doing a speech (during class or CCA sessions). 

2. Video should not be longer than 3 minutes.

3. Your speech should be about 3 minutes long with 2 well-articulated arguments. There should be a decent understanding of proper intonation, pace and volume displayed. You should also possess a confident demeanour while speaking. There should be a decent logical flow with clear examples and an attempt to use rhetoric to persuade.

4. Applicants who wish to submit their videos should email their videos to goh_jenny@moe.edu.sg.

Performance Task/Assessment Components

Shortlisted Candidates will need to do the following:

1. A 5-minutes prepared speech and 3-minut impromptu speech on the day of trial. The topic and instructions will only be given on the day of the trial. Candidates will be given 15 minutes to prepare for their impromptu speech.

2. Sit for a 15-minute written test on General knowledge.

3. 10-minute interview with the teachers.

Shortlisted applicants will only need to attend the trials on one of the listed days in the schedule. 

Tentative trial dates: 22/07, 29/07, 05/08

Shortlist Criteria

Submission of e-portfolio via email consisting of the following:
a) A write up with the following information on the first slide of MS PowerPoint / Google Slides:

1. • • Short description about the student on his personality, strengths, interest in Digital Dedia and any future aspirations in this field.

     • If applicant is a Digital Media CCA member 2023 - 2025. 

     • Key leadership positions in CCA and/or school

     • If applicant has experience in working on creative projects in school or externally.

     • If applicant has represented the school/externally in Digital Media-related competitions. 

     • Experience and competency in using media software such as Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, Premier Pro, Final Cut Pro etc.

b) Portfolio of 3 - 5 original works across individual slides using MS PowerPoint / Google Slides (1 work per slide).

1. • Works chosen:

     • Should be created in the last 3 years and can include works done in school Digital Media lessons / CCA Projects.

     • Works can also be personal or external creative endeavours.

     • Can include time-based works (e.g. videos, animations, can be hosted online with link provided in slide).

     • Should demonstrate a student's creative interests, strengths and qualities such as curiosity, imagination, perception and self-motivation.

E-portfolio can be in Google Slides or PowerPoint or PDF format with the following file-naming convention:

Performance Task/Assessment Components

1. Take a photograph using the school DSLR on the given theme

2. Students are given 20 minutes to complete the task within the ACS(BR) school compound

3. For the photograph, students will be assessed based on mastery of basic photography techniques, composition, content and communication of ideas

4. Interview (5 to 10 minutes) which will assess student's passion and interest in new media, and the ability to articulate ideas and reflect on their portfolio submissions

5. Selection trial will be done in a small group setting with an estimated duration of 30 minutes.       

Shortlist Criteria

1. Proficient in programming using software such as Lego EV3 classroom, Spike Prime App or equivalent to control a basic competitive robot

2. Interest in robotics, programming and coding

3. Exposure in solving real world problems through coding and passion to make a difference to the world around them through the use of technology

4. Possess the creativity and ability to think on the spot to solve problems

5. Have consistently taken part in Robotics CCA / enrichment programmes

6. Have participated in Robotics competitions and won awards

Performance Task/Assessment Components

1. Complete a theory test on Robotics, Computational Thinking, Debugging and Flowchart

2. Program a standard EV3/Spike Prime robot to solve a given robotics mission

3. Program a robot based on a flow chart

4. Program a robot to demonstrate logical and efficient movement sequences by incorporating sensor inputs

5. Demonstrate good programming practices and techniques, minimizing program length where possible

Performance Task/Assessment Components

1. Prepare an excerpt from a solo piece not more than 3 mins for any instrument (e.g. Pipa, Guzheng, Cello, Ruan, etc.)

2. Prepare to play C, D, G, A, F and B flat major scales on your instrument. 2 octaves, lowest to highest note and highest note back to the lowest note.

3. Interview with a self introduction, what you can offer to the school via the talent area, your experience with Chinese music and how you intend to fulfill these commitments if you are accepted into the school.

Each audition should not exceed 15 minutes

Please bring along any evidence of your relevant achievements and experiences, if available.

4. Strong musical experience/background (Performing Arts CCA or performance related activities or at least 3 years of continuous musical training)

Performance Task/Assessment Components

1. Perform two vocal pieces of varying styles. No musical accompaniment is required

2. Total duration of both pieces should be between 1 minute to 3 minutes long

3. Provide a copy of the score for the interviewer to refer if possible

4. Demonstrate proficiency in pitching and rhythmic memory

5. Demonstrate proficiency in reading basic musical notation

2. Experience in the talent area (represented school/external clubs or academies)

4. Strong experience/background in various Musical instruments

Performance Task/Assessment Components

1. Play a prepared piece on a wind/brass instrument

2. Play at least 2 major scales with good tone (up to 2 sharps and 2 flats)

3. Aural Test or Rhythm pitch

4. For percussion instruments: Demonstrate rhythmic and pulse precision on snare drum.

5. Demonstrate good sense of Rhythm / Tempo

6. Play expressively with good intonation

7. Read notes on the treble and/or bass staff

Shortlist Criteria

1. CCA participation/achievements (school/non-school based)

2. Has experience in various dance genres (e.g hip hop, B-boy, contemporary, ballet, jazz and etc)

3. Leadership roles

Performance Task/Assessment Components

1. Prepare a 2 min solo performance using a choreography of their choice. (Hip Hop/Street Dance/B-boy)  

2. Be able to demonstrate rhythm, flexibility, timing and expression in their performance

3. Showcase a few moves as demonstrated by the coach during the actual day interview. 

4. Interview with CCA teachers on the following:

   • Past experience, passion and interest in Dance

   • Strengths of candidate (specific genre(s) that candidate is particularly good in)

   • How candidate could contribute to the Dance CCA if they are accepted into ACS(BR)

Shortlist Criteria

1. Preferably to have represented the primary school in the National School Games or participated in External Badminton Competitions

2. Information that can be downloaded from the DSA portal may also be considered

Performance Task/Assessment Components

1. Shortlisted applicants will spar with one another

2. Ability to execute the basic shots Lob, Smash, Drop Shot, Lifting, Pushing etc

3. Physical abilities including Stamina

4. Suitability as a singles or doubles player

Shortlist Criteria

1. Preferably to have represented the primary school in the National School Games, or participated in External Basketball Competitions

3. Candidates will be assessed in their competency in ball-handling

Students are to report in PE attire with non-marking court shoes, and bring along your own floorball sticks. 

For Goalkeepers, please come in your own goalkeeper gear, if you have one.
